Prudential Financial Donation Benefits Many

A change in name has turned out to be beneficial to many area nonprofits as Prudential Financial donated a variety of surplus items through Valley United Way's local Gifts in Kind Program. The Prudential office in Shelton was previously part of American Skandia prior to being acquired by Prudential. Skandia had a variety of promotional products that carried the Skandia name and logo that will no longer be used. Rather than discard the items, Prudential's Antoinetta Hallet who is an active member of Valley United Way's Corporate Volunteer Council, contacted Jack Walsh to see if United Way could find a home for the products.

Valley United Way has participated in the Gifts in Kind International program of product donations for a couple of decades, but also runs its own local version. A quick check with local agencies revealed a real interest, and Jack Ribas and Mike Cotela of the Boys & Girls Club agreed to use the gymnasium at the Club as a distribution center for the items.

The items were delivered to the Club, and the staff helped

Antoinetta arrange the items. They included baseballs, basketballs and footballs. There was a variety of golf clothing as well as back packs, duffle bags, portfolios, pens, calculators, and post it notes. Coffee mugs, note pads and letter openers were in abundance as well. Within an hour all of the items were happily carted away by the following groups:

Boys & Girls Club
SONCCA
Rape Crisis Center
Boy Scouts
Valley Parish Nurse Program
Valley YMCA
Umbrella
Shelton Safe Home
North Star
Red Cross
Valley Discovery Project
Valley United Way

Cathy Adamczyk of North Star and Julianne Ramia of the Umbrella program were thrilled with the variety of items they received.

Thank you Prudential!
