Dr. Stephen Tracy Provides Leadership to School & Community

Dr. Stephen C. Tracy is heading up this year's Education Division of the Annual Community Campaign. Dr. Tracy took over the leadership of  Derby School System in 2008 during a period of great activity in Derby including the building of a new Middle School which is slated for opening later this year.

He has a varied and distinguished background in education having served as Senior Vice President of Edison Schools Inc., an innovative effort to improve public schools and boost student performance. Prior to that he served as Superintendent of Schools in New Milford and Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Farmington. He has also worked for the Connecticut State Department of Education and was also a Social Studies teacher in Shrub Oak in New York.

Dr. Tracy is a graduate of Princeton University and earned his masters Degree at Columbia and his Doctorate in School Management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He is married to Mary Ludlum Tacey and they have three children, Christopher, Bryan and Jermey.

Fred Ortoli, Chairman of this year's Community Campaign, said that Valley United Way is very pleased to have Dr. Tracy head the Education Division of Campaign. "It's great to have Dr. Tracy take time from his important work with the Derby schools to get involved in the annual campaign. Educators in the Valley have always been very generous supporters of the campaign, and Dr. Tracy is jumping right in to continue the great tradition." He noted that the Derby Schools conducted their campaign even before the students arrived for school this year.
