United Illuminating's winning #2 team extended their its undefeated streak to two years with an impressive victory in the 1999 Community Corporate Cup Volleyball Tourney. During the course of the day's competition, UI went undefeated at 4-0 in division play and after an opening round bye proceeded to demolish Bassett's (15-1), Birmingham Group #1 (11-5) and Pitney Bowes (15-9 and 15-4) on their road to victory in the Championship Bracket. the members of UI's winning team were Karen Varney, Kathy Bausch, Matt Maher, Bob Manning and Glen Varney. Maher, Manning and Karen Varney were all members of last year's winning team as well. Pitney Bowes found themselves finishing second to UI twice on the day as they finished 3-1 in bracket play with their only loss coming to UI #2 by a narrow 10-9 margin - UI#2's closest match of the day. Pitney Bowes advanced to the finals by earning a bye and then defeating Microboard Processing and Griffin Hospital #1 by identical 15-5 scores. Griffin Hospital came back to beat Birmingham #1 15-6 to capture third place. United Illuminating #1 topped a surprising Rifkin Travel team in consolation play to take fifth place while Rifkin finished sixth. The complete standings:
