The Youth Leaders had a very busy monthly meeting in October. First was the presentation by Arline Bradley from Pitney Bowes inviting the Youth Leaders to participate in the Pitney Bowes Special Olympics Bowling event taking place November 20 and 21st.

Laurie-Jean Hannon, Special Olympics Vice President came to the meeting with Arline to thank the Youth Leaders for signing up to volunteer.  They received their training at the meeting so that when they walk into the bowling lane in Milford on the third weekend in November, they will be handed their tee shirt and lane assignment and begin.

Valley United Way Youth Leaders have been volunteering with the Special Olympics for the past 7 years.  It’s one of their favorite volunteer projects ...when the Youth Leaders walk out of the bowling lanes they walk away with life long memories.

The second half of the meeting was the” Halloween Party”. They all dressed up and brought food....a lot of food! And, a pizza delivery was perfect! Special fun awards given out for costumes:

Sarah Parkins – senior at Sacred Heart Academy won for the scariest (the axe won it)

Alison Garman –senior at Seymour High School won for the most original

Jennifer Mezzquelle  - sophomore at Notre Dame in Fairfield won for the cutest

It was lots of fun. Next month at their November monthly meeting the Youth Leaders will focus on allocations.  They are planning a weekend allocations retreat to Camp Jewell in January.
